- Netflix launched in Ireland on the 9th of January in 2012. Netflix in Ireland will cost €6.99 per month for unlimited streaming but will not offer DVD’s by post as they do in the US. This is in contrast with Amazon own rival LoveFilm, they offer them both but just at a greater cost.
Legal Issues
- Netflix faced a copyright issue before they entered into the UK and Ireland in early 2012. Netflix had an issue because some large Hollywood companies such as Paramount University and 20th Century fox will not be willing to agree the terms of another subscription based service. But with much negotiation and talks the companies came to an agreement and Netflix entered the Irish market
Marketing Strategy
- Netflix marketing strategy is brilliant but it is very simple, for a reasonably low flat fee, a customer can rent an unlimited amount of DVDs. As quick as a person can watch a film and send it back via the mail, they get another from the rental line. It's a person’s dream come true that truly enjoys watching movies.
- When you pay your money and you end up saving a fortune in rental fees because you are promised new films within a day of receipt of the DVD you sent back in a handy pre- is what's promised when you read the offer and sign up with Netflix.
- In 2005 Netflix was sued by subscriber stating their marketing strategy was misleading.
“The subscriber pointing out that the supposed one-day turnaround could stretch as long as six days. If you paid for three movies per package, you could find yourself receiving only 10 DVDs a month, rather than the unlimited amount promised”
